All well calibrated teams are well informed. Stand-ups serves the same purpose as any sport team's game huddle— it keeps the team informed, connected and calibrated. Stand-ups is an integral part of our daily work routine.

A stand-up meeting is a meeting in which attendees typically participate while standing. The discomfort of standing for long periods is intended to keep the meetings short.

— simplest definition according to the trusty(?) wikipedia.

The Stand-up

At 2 pm, when the whole team is in station, we do our daily stand-ups for 5-10 mins.

One at a time, We follow a simple format:

  1. How are you feeling today? - Rate yourself from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the highest)
  2. Done yesterday
  3. Doing today
  4. Obstacles/blockers

<aside> 💡 Each steps highlight progress and help flag team blockers. Also, it strengthens the team when everyone shares the progress they’re contributing to the team. The daily reinforcement of sharing individual successes and plans keeps everyone excited about the team’s overall contribution to the organization.
